Headshots, Who Needs ‘Em?

Headshots? For me, a professional in the corporate world? Why on earth would I need a headshot?

Let me respond to that mindset as gently as I can: YOU NEED A HEADSHOT! It is 2025 for

cryin’ out loud! If you have a professional, corporate job it is actually imperative that you think about how you represent yourself in this digital world. I’m talking places like LinkedIn, your company’s website, and your own personal website. Part of your success is going to come from correctly representing yourself via a professional headshot.

Now I’m not talking about a bathroom selfie or something you shoot at home willy-nilly. I am talking about a professional headshot shot done by a professional photographer.

Take managing director of Bubblegum Casting, Adam Jacob’s advice:

“in the corporate world, there's no better way to gain a potential client's trust and boost your reputation than by taking professional headshots.”

The quickest way to gain your client’s trust is for them to see you and what you represent. A proper headshot will capture this for you.

But you’re not an actor, what does a good, professional shot look like? Where do you start? Let’s start with what your brand is. How do you want to be represented? What is your essence? What do you bring to your company and to your client? Do you want to represent being open and welcoming to your customers? Or do you want to show that you are tough and will get the job done?

For the easiest example of good branding for your professional headshot take a look at accident lawyers. Oftentimes they take a sillier route for advertisements, but they also do a fabulous job of knowing their brand and showing their clients what they are about. Whether they are the “super hero” lawyer with a heroic headshot complete with a cape or the “strong armed” lawyer with a tough guy look and sunglasses. Their clients immediately know what they are about and what service they offer. That is what good branding does!

Once you are confident about what your brand is, you’ll want to consider a few DON’Ts and DOs.

Clothing:

DON’T wear wild patterns, logos that aren’t your company’s, or dirty/wrinkled clothes.

DO wear clean, solid colors that flatter your skin tone, eyes, and hair color. Consider layers: suit jackets are a great idea for the corporate world!

Planning:

DON’T show up day of shoot with zero plans. This will result in shots you don’t like through no fault of the photographers. Plus it’s a waste of everyone’s time, energy, and money! For criminy sakes, don’t waste your money!

DO plan ahead. This includes: makeup, hair, clothing, shots you’re looking to get, and a plan for day of travel. Planning ahead will boost your confidence on your shoot day leaving you with only one problem: too many good shots to choose from! The best problem to have!

Photographer:

DON’T just go with whatever rando photographer you find online. Your headshots are too important for that. You have to research who you work with. Look at their style, the shots they’ve taken, and the feedback other customers haven given them. Know who they are before you jump into working with them.

DO make sure your photographer knows you. Again, a great headshot is when your essence is captured. How can someone do that if they don’t know you? If you can, get a pre-shoot meeting in with your photographer to let them know what you want. This will also help you figure out their style of shooting.

This last one is key: finding the right photographer. As overwhelming as this may seem, it’s actually the easiest answer I can give you: Moon Trip.

See Moon Trip is not only comprised of professional photographers who have the best equipment to get your perfect shot, they themselves are a small business which means they know the how crucial marketing is when you’re looking to gain clients.

Both CEO Molly Pass and COO Adam Breazeale want you to succeed in your business. They want to know who you are, what you represent, and how you want to present yourself to the world. Once they understand this they can utilize their incredible camera skills to get you the perfect headshot which showcases you and your brand!

In fact, let’s hear what advice Molly has about business headshots:

“DON'T SWEAT IT. Lots of folks get a little antsy or uncomfortable at the thought of having their photo taken. Our lead photographers are all actors, and we aspire to make every shoot feel comfortable because we know what it's like being on the other side of the lens. We will talk you through all the posing, location scouting, and even help you decide between wardrobe options if you need an extra pair of eyes. Our goal is to show YOU off with high-quality photos of you doing what you do best, and we'll handle the rest.”
